Connectors have an important job to do. They might seem like little innocuous tictacs when you hold them in your hand. However, if they go wrong, your equipment could be in great trouble. But it could be much worse if we hadn’t cut out the potential for human error in the moulding process.
Of course, as suppliers, GK Services will wax lyrical about their preventative prowess. They are the last word in water and chemical ingress prevention. Is a component that effectively prevents dust and chemicals from mangling your equipment not the common-sense choice? Of course, we are not completely rendering manually assemblage moot. They are effective for certain projects, if not suitable for those that require protecting machinery in harsh conditions.
The reason they are less effective for these projects has nothing to do with their materials or their construction. Manually assembled connectors don’t have the benefit of being sealed in the injection moulding process. They are clicked together by humans, and human error is often costly.
Overmoulding provides a more precise build
It’s realistically a question of precision in the production of the component. Overmoulding techniques ensure that there is absolutely no gap, not even for a molecule of water, between the two materials. They are fused together as a singular unified body so as to protect from ingress of any sort.
Any error in production causes misalignments or fractures so badly shaped that they wouldn’t be fit for purpose. No connector, so imprecise, would pass the quality control stage. A manually assembled connector can’t begin to promise the same level of quality control and connection. Gaps and misalignments are inevitable and unavoidable. That’s hardly human error, but it wouldn’t happen with machine-led injection moulding.
But these connectors wouldn’t be used for the same products as an overmoulded connector. A rushed and harried assembly team couldn’t guarantee an effective connection. Even if focus wasn’t an issue, human assembly can’t promise consistency. Mistakes, on typically dark-bodied connectors, are much more difficult to discern.

Perhaps protecting your machinery from water, chemicals, and dust isn’t as much of a priority within your industry. Perhaps you are confident that the sterility of your workspace or even the equipment itself, doesn’t warrant as connector with a high IP Rating.
However, should you require protection from water, chemicals, and dusts then the manual connector is not going to be adequate. You lose so much trust due to the haphazard assembly process. Fully protect your business equipment with an overmoulded solution. Don’t worry about human error.
